Book Review: These Broken Stars

I am sorry for the lack of posts the last week.

I was away last week for most of the days -and actually scheduled most of the posts that went up last week, which i was horrible proud of only to completely fail again this week!- and after coming back i didn't feel good at all.

I am trying to be better at posting more regularly. I will i promise!

But for now...

Lets just get into this book because i will ramble enough in the actual review so lets just....

These Broken Stars

Author: Amie Kaufman and Meagan Spooner
Language: English
Publisher: Disney Hyperion
Type of book: e-book
Pages:  378
Overall rating: 4 out of 5
Book series: yes, Starbound #1
Book received through: bought it myself
Summary on the book:
"Luxury space liner Icarus suddenly plummets from hyperspace into the nearest planet. Lilac LaRoux and Traver Merendsen survive -alone. Lilac is the daughter of the richest man in the Universe. Trevor comes from nothing, a cynical war hero. Both journey across the eerie deserted terrain for help. Everything changes when they uncover the truth."

Favorite thing/moment in the book: The writing itself. It was very beautiful and fitting for this type of story, not to descriptive and focused on unnecessary details but still descriptive enough that the reader can picture what is happening. Really beautiful writing.

Worth reading?
Yes. This book is different, and not at all what i expected to read when i started it. I can understand how people love it. And i think that many people -those that are new to Science Fiction and those that are fans for a long time- will find something they love in this book.
Give it a try if you are unsure, and be surprised.

First thought after finishing the book: Surprisingly wonderful. Different, easy to read and understand Science-Fiction with a cute romance and interesting storyline and fantastic spins.

When this book came out, i thought the cover was wonderful. Different and interesting and had just something that i really liked. But i am don't really read Science Fiction. Not necessary because i don't like it, its just that most Science fiction books are not something that i see and thing: yes, that this book is something go want to try!

Normally I am not very specific about what i give a try. I have found most of my favorite books by simply picking up a book because the first line of the book itself or the summary sounded interesting. Or the cover was beautiful and intriguing.

I never really look into the genres before i read a book.

This book however... i knew it took place in space and in a spaceship and on a different planet... it just... it wasn't something I ever read before and i was completely unsure about if i would like it or not.

To make this whole story not even longer: I was unsure about this book when it first came out in 2013 and i didn't know if it was something that i would enjoy or if it was completely out of my comfort zone.

But when i found a little while i go and saw that the last book of the trilogy was coming out soon i thought why not? If i didn't like it, i at least tried it. And if i enjoyed it i don't have to wait that long for the next book.

But this book surprised me so extremely in the best ways, I really want to read more from both authors. And Science Fiction. And just see what i have not really dipped into.

So lets get into the the book:

The story itself starts out a bit slow: Tarver -the male main character- describes the ball/event that he was to attend even though around him are the rich, snoppy people that clearly are not happy about having a soldier between their ranks. And then he sees Lilac sitting alone and looking different then the other rich and boringly fake people around him.

After that start, i expected a bit of a insta-lovey kind of story and honestly expected that book to become a 2 star read.

Yes well, we call can be horrible wrong sometimes.

I was with this book. Completely wrong. There was no insta-love between those two characters.

The small meeting they share on this ball/event is okay, the next meeting shortly before the crash of their spaceship builds a deep mistrust and almost hate between those two -at least on the male side of things.

And then their spaceship crashes and they both mange to escape in a escape capsule that crashes on a planet and the story really begins.

I have to say that i loved how those events were told -much better then i just did, i promise!- and how the first few days on that planet go.

This is not one of those stories where the girl just trusts the guy and just follows a long. Or one of those stories were the guy automatically does everything right when crash landing in a horrible situation. Sure Tarver knows a few things about things going horrible wrong -he is a war hero soldier that survived another horrible situation that never actually really gets talked about just mentioned- so he at least knows how to track through unknown areas and how to build shelter and all that stuff.

Still, this story is not the typical survival after crash story.

As i said before about this book, it is different.

And the turns and twists that come up, are completely unexpected and not something that i ever thought could be in this book. I won't go into detail because that would be spoiling the book that that would be horrible.

Lets just say that this book has a fantastic plot twist and a pretty good ending where everything is resolved, which i really enjoyed.

I love it when the books in a series have individual endings in themselves. That is just a preference of mine.

All in all this book was really well done and i think that everyone should give it a try. If you are unsure this is something you enjoy, this might be just as big of a surprise for you as it was for me. Just give it a try. The writing style really makes it easy to enjoy this book, no matter how far into Science Fiction you already are when you start to read this book.

Have you read this book?
If you so what did you think?
Do you guys have any easy to get into Science-Fiction books to recommend for me that i should try?

Let me know :)

Write more later....
